Hey, everyone. :)

Since many of us are spending more time at home than ever, and given some recent controversies with streaming services like Netflix, I thought it might be a good time to mention some excellent Christian streaming alternatives that have appeared online. The links are below. :)

Christian Cinnema - This is an excellent streaming service with a lot of wonderful Christian and family friendly movies and a lot of purchase options. You can buy or rent movies individually, or you can purchase a “Giving Membership” for $24.99 annually which gives you up to five free rentals a month (that means up to 60 free movies a year), as well as other benefits, and the memberships help provide clean water to people around the world.

RedeemTV - This is a free streaming service with a good number of Christian movies. The production value of the Christian movies can vary sometimes, but if you’re especially particular about that, there are a number of high quality productions available as well. They also have documentaries and children’s programming, and the site allows you to interact with other viewers through forums and comment sections. You can unlock even more content by making a donation.

The Dove Channel - Suggested by [livejournal.com profile] ramblin_rosie. She says it is "another free streaming service with options for on-demand and live viewing. It's available online, through its own app and through Tubi, and as a channel on Pluto TV."

Yippee - Yippee is a subscription service specifically centered around children’s shows and the needs of families. The cost is the same as Netflix, though you can try out the site first with a 7 day free trial.

And last, but by no means least:

The Chosen - The Chosen is “the first-ever-multi-season TV show about the life of Jesus.” While it isn’t a streaming service specifically, the creators of The Chosen are working to give as many people free access to the show as possible with a “Pay it Forward” initiative through their app. They invite anyone to watch through the app, and then, if they are able and wish to, they can pay so that others might also watch for free. Season 1 (8 episodes) is complete and is also available on DVD if you’d rather watch that way. You can also find livestreams of the episodes on The Chosen Youtube channel, which includes lots of behind the scenes content, interviews, and updates.

I genuinely cannot say enough about this show. It is absolutely incredible. The writing and directing are fabulous, as is the quality of the show in general. It is one of the best things I have ever seen, Christian or otherwise, and it brings the scriptures to life in a way that other Christian productions haven’t. They really are reaching people for Christ, both inside and outside of the church.

They are currently filming season two (with a lot of extra precautions due to COVID, including frequent testing for the cast and crew). If you have not seen it already, please go check it out. You won’t regret it. :)

I don't usually post music here on the comm, but I couldn't resist this time.

I'm a fan of the Christian band MercyMe, and they have a new album coming out next month. They just released a single from it, and it's absolutely beautiful. It's one of the best - and most powerful - Christian songs I have ever heard. It has such an incredible message. The song is called "Even If."

Heaven is real. God loves you.

Are those statements true? Yes, most definitely! But, they do not represent the full truth, and if those are the only two truths you embrace, you may be headed down a very dangerous path. That is why I was incredibly disappointed by the movie, "Heaven is for Real."

Let me back up a bit.

I read the book, “Heaven is for Real,” a few years ago, and I loved it. It was in-line with scripture, and it was wonderfully inspiring and left me encouraged and uplifted. The real-life account is amazing, and I was thrilled to learn that there would be a movie. But, just a few days ago, I bought the movie and came away feeling incredibly let down, because not only does the movie not match the account in the book in some critical ways, more importantly, it’s not in-line with the Gospel.

Two Christian Pastors in Sudan are facing death because of their faith. They have just been moved to a high-security prison, where conditions are worse and no visitors are allowed. This could be a sign that execution will follow shortly. Their names are Yat Michael Ruot and Peter Yein Reith.

The ACLJ is working on their behalf and currently gathering signatures on a petition for their release. They are hoping to gather 15,000 more signatures today.

Signing is easy and only takes a few moments.

If you'd like to sign the petition, you can do so here.

Plase keep them in your prayers as well.

The ACLJ has created a new documentary about the persecution Christians are currently facing in the Middle East.

You can watch it online for free here.

The Voice of the Martyrs is currently working to help the Christians who have been forced to flee ISIS in Iraq. To do this, VOM has created a special T-shirt using the Arabic letter “n” that the homes of Christians are being marked with in Northern Iraq (the “n” stands for Nazarene). The t-shirts are $20, and $10 dollars goes directly to help Iraqi Christians.

Or, if you prefer, you can simply leave a donation for them, without purchasing the t-shirt.

If you’re interested, you can find the page here.

I try not to flood the comm with things like this, because there are always so many worthy causes and so many things to pray about, but this one seemed like another good one to share.

Some consider North Korea “The most Christian-Hostile Nation in Human History” (Rev. Eric Foley, These are the Generations). Personal accounts by North Korean Christians support this, and their stories are harrowing. The Voice of the Martyrs is currently running a campaign, writing letters of confession to North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un.

If you’re interested, you can sign a letter electronically here.

It’s easy to do, and doesn’t take long.

A woman named Meriam Ibrahim is currently on death row in Sudan. She was sentenced to death for becoming a Christian. She is married to an American man, who is also a Christian. Their two very young children (American citizens) are being held in prison with her, while she awaits the result of her appeal in the Sudanese courts.

The ACLJ is fighting for her release, and they have created an online petition so that others can add their voice. If you’d like to sign it, you can do so here. It’s very easy to do, and only takes seconds. And of course, please pray for her, and pass on the link to others as well.

Pastor Saeed, the Pastor imprisoned in Iran, is still being held there. Please continue to keep him in your prayers. For the latest on his situation, you can go here.

Hi, everyone.

I have mentioned Pastor Saeed Abedini a few times now. He has now been in an Iranian Prison for 493 days. But, in the words of the ACLJ, (The American Center for Law and Justice, a non-profit, Christian legal organization) "...there is a glimmer of hope. Iran has indicated that clemency – release – could be a possibility for Pastor Saeed."

The ACLJ is currently working on a petition to demand that Iran grant this clemency to Pastor Saeed. If you'd like to sign the petition, or to learn more about Pastor Saeed, you can go here.

And of course, please keep him in your prayers, as well as all the persecuted Christians around the world.

Hi, everyone.

You might remember an earlier post I had up in support of Pastor Saeed Abedini, who is currently in prison in Iran for his faith in Christ. It has now been almost a year since he was first sentenced, and he is still suffering.

However, Iran now has a new president, one who claims to be more moderate. The ACLJ (The American Center for Law and Justice, a non-profit, Christian legal organization) is beginning a campaign to send President Hassan Rouhani 1,000 letters a week, pleading for Pastor Saeed's release.

If you'd like to help, you can write a letter here.

It's incredibly easy - they have a form letter you can use, and it only takes a few minutes at most. More info about Paster Saeed and the ACLJ can be found on the website as well. Please keep him and his family, and this effort, in your prayers.

Also, you've probably heard about the devastating floods in Colorado. I live in Colorado myself, close to the flooded counties, though my hometown has been mercifully spared the worst so far. Please pray for the state and all the families suffering right now. And, if you can, please donate to the relief efforts through a reputable charity. It's going to be a very long recovery.

Here’s your chance to fix that, and explore what could have been, or might still be! Just come and join us for the het_marriage promptathon on [livejournal.com profile] christianfanfic.

You don’t have to be a Christian to come and post! Everyone is welcome! We only ask that you follow the rules of the comm, which can be found here, on our community info page.

Hi, everyone. :)

When I posted the prompts for May, I mentioned that I had something different in mind for June prompts. I’ve been wanting to do something that will hopefully inspire more writers and prompt - pun intended - more interaction on the comm. :) And, a conversation with a good friend of mine, cruorem, gave me an idea. We were talking about the sad way that marriage is often portrayed in fics - either it’s ignored completely, or it’s shown in a sad light, or it’s twisted somehow. And we both agreed that it would be really nice to see marriage celebrated for once.

So, for the month of June, that’s exactly what CFF will do. :) We are going to have a marriage promptathon.

I receive emails from a Christian legal non-profit known as the ACLJ (The American Center for Law and Justice).

They're working to help secure the freedom of a Pastor Saeed Abedini, who is currently imprisoned in Iran simply because he refuses to renounce his Christian faith. He is enduring regular beatings, suffering from internal bleeding, and he is being refused any medical treatment. His condition is worsening.

You can read the latest update on his situation here: http://aclj.org/iran/american-pastor-saeed-abedini-thrown-into-solitary-confinement-in-iran-health-deteriorating

Right now, the ACLJ is running a campaign to send letters of encouragement to Pastor Saeed, whose birthday is May 7th.

To send a letter of encouragement an/or sign the petition for his release, you can go here: http://savesaeed.org/

Please remember him in your prayers, and all the Christians around the world who are being persecuted for their beliefs.

Hi, everyone, your friendly neighborhood mod here. :)

I just wanted to update everyone on what’s been happening around the comm, and let you know about a few changes. (Sorry that it’s taken me so long. Life has been demanding my full attention lately.)

[identity profile] laughtersmelody.livejournal.com
Hey, everyone!

Don't mind the extra posts. I'm just reorganizing the user info, moving some portions of it to posts on the comm itself. I will update everyone on small changes and so forth in another post later.

[identity profile] laughtersmelody.livejournal.com
Hi, everyone. :) *waves*

It's been a while. I have very honestly been swallowed by school, and life in general. But, I'm hoping to, in the near future, do some work on this comm, including editing the layout. We've had the footprints theme since the comm first opened, and I figure it's time to change that. I hope it's alright that I'm not asking for votes on what the new look will be (though if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please comment on this post!).

But, since this comm tends to be rather quiet, and the last vote we had got about three responses, one of which was me...I'm going with my own design sense for now, which hopefully you'll like. In the mean time, if you happen to see colors changing or things appearing and disappearing, you'll know why. :)
