June Marriage Promptathon: Week 1 - The Marriage Vows

Hi, everyone! Welcome to the official start of the marriage promptathon. Our prompt theme for this week is the marriage vows.

Chances are you’ve heard them before, or maybe you’ve even taken them yourself. :) But what do they really mean to the marriage? And how would your favorite fictional couple give their vows? Are they the traditional types? Or would they write their own?

It is, of course, up to you, but if you need some inspiration, hopefully this post can help with that. :)

Written prompt:

The traditional marriage vows:

I, (name), take you (name), to be my (wife/husband), to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part.

Bible verse prompt:

“That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” - Genesis 2:24

Song prompt:

“Love is not a Fight,” by Warren Barfield.

Love is not a place
To come and go as we please
It's a house we enter in
And then commit to never leave
So lock the door behind you
Throw away the key
We'll work it out together
Let it bring us to our knees

Love is a shelter in a raging storm
Love is peace in the middle of a war
If we try to leave may God send angels to guard the door
No, love is not a fight but it's something worth fighting for

Full Lyrics here.

Song can be found on Youtube here.
